With a time of 9:03.57, the Swede was just over seven seconds behind the Italian Nadia Battoceltti, who won. American Emily Mackay was second and Jessica Hull, USA, third.
Sjöberg was in tenth place when the last lap started. She then sprinted to seventh place. She said she has been practicing sprinting.
"To put this kick in during the last 100 meters. I think I proved it today. I felt strong at the end, so I'm really happy," she says.
Sjöberg competed at the World Championships in Tokyo last fall, in the 1,500 meters, but did not advance to the semifinals. She therefore ranks this indoor World Championships placing very highly.
This is the best thing I've done, I would say.
