Duterte is facing three counts of crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC). The charges relate to murders allegedly committed as part of Duterte's crackdown on drug users and dealers.
The 81-year-old president's defense attorney has argued that the court does not have jurisdiction over crimes in the Philippines because the country is no longer a party to the Rome Statute, the ICC's founding treaty.
The prosecutor, however, argues that the alleged crimes occurred while the Philippines was still a party to the Rome Statute and that the judges can therefore decide Duterte's case.
