He was conscious when he was taken to the hospital by ambulance, the race's press manager, Lorenzo Nesi, told TT.
The incident occurred near the finish line at Stockholm Stadium. The man received emergency medical treatment at the scene before being taken to the hospital.
Of the 20,302 starters, 18,921 finished – which was a record in both categories.
In addition to the cardiac arrest, another 18 people sought hospital care for milder conditions. Fatigue and dehydration were the most common problems during the race.
Nesi pointed out that temperatures reached 22 degrees Celsius along the running route, which was warmer than expected.
We are still satisfied with having brought in so many people without any major problems, Nesi said.
