"Make the Heart Hard" by Amanda Kernell and "Damn Men" by Jens Sjögren have also been selected. These are three films that, according to Swedish Film Institute CEO Anna Croneman, "demonstrate the strong artistic voices and breadth of perspectives and stories that we can now see in Swedish film."

In "Archipelago," Gustaf Skarsgård, Fares Fares and Linus Wahlgren play three fathers who accompany their daughters on a school trip, and when they are stranded with the high school class, they are reminded of their own teenage traumas.

Kernell's film, which will have its European premiere in the main competition at the San Sebastián Film Festival, revolves around 20-year-old Ejva, who must take over responsibility for the family's reindeer alone when her father dies.

"Damn Men" by Jens Sjögren is based on the August Prize-winning book of the same name by Andrev Walden.

The Swedish Film Institute has selected the three candidates for Sweden's Oscar entry in the category of best international feature film. One will be announced in early September. The process to an actual nomination is, however, long, and the official nominations will be announced on 21 January next year.

Over the years, 17 Swedish films have been nominated for Best International Feature Film, four of which have been awarded the statuette.
