How much money the Saudi fund is investing is not officially announced. A total of 32 teams are participating in the club World Championship and one of them is Saudi al-Hilal, which is owned by Pif to 75 percent.

The total prize money for the club World Championship is expected to amount to a staggering 1.05 billion kronor – each participating club will receive a starting sum of approximately 91 million kronor.

A large part of the prize money is assumed to come from the sale of the global broadcasting rights, which were purchased by the streaming service Dazn in December last year. The price tag is said to have landed at around 10 billion kronor – roughly the same amount it is said to have cost the Saudi investment fund to enter as a minority owner in Dazn at the end of last year.

The authoritarian state has been sponsoring the World Championship in the US, Canada and Mexico since last year via the state-owned oil company Aramco.

The men's club World Championship will start in Miami on June 15 and the final will be played at Metlife Stadium outside New York, four weeks later.
