The airline SAS is resuming direct flights from Copenhagen to Nuuk, Greenland, after more than 20 years of hiatus.
The new flight route strengthens the ties between Greenland and the rest of the world and confirms Copenhagen's role as a leading international hub in Scandinavia, writes SAS in a press release.
The decision to resume air traffic to and from Nuuk is made after the President of the USA, Donald Trump, earlier this year stated that he wants the USA to take control of Greenland – and expressed threats that it may become relevant to intervene militarily to achieve this goal.
Since the Trump administration in a series of statements expressed its controversial view on Greenland, Denmark has strengthened its military presence in Greenland, including with fighter jet patrols.
