The airline SAS is buying up to 55 new aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer for more than 37 billion Swedish kronor. At a press conference, the company's CEO Anko van der Werff presents the plans. In an initial phase, the company is investing in 45 new planes with the option to buy an additional ten.
The investment is described as the company's largest since 1996 and the first planes of the E195-E2 model are scheduled for delivery in 2027. The aircraft are described by the company's CEO as significantly more fuel-efficient and quieter than previous models in SAS's aircraft fleet. They are primarily intended for use on flights within the Nordic region.
