The 32-year-old Swede started the final strongly against American Lauren Coughlin and led by four strokes after the first six holes. But then she lost three holes in a row, and after the 11th, Coughlin caught up, and on the 12th, she took the lead, making the final a real thriller.
Madelene Sagström won the 13th and regained the lead on the 16th. On the final hole, Lauren Coughlin needed to sink a long birdie putt to extend the match – but missed.
It will probably feel very rewarding soon, but right now, I'm very tired, says Sagström, after winning seven straight matches, including against American Angel Yin in the semifinal.
Sagström is ranked 67th in the world, and the victory, her second title on the LPGA tour, gives her over three million kronor.
Last week, I wondered if I would ever play good golf again. Being a golf pro is a very fulfilling job when it goes well, but extremely difficult when it goes badly, and I have questioned myself many times during my career, says Sagström.
Am I good enough to play against these girls? Will I become one of the best players in the world? I have always had the ambition, but never really known.
Sagström's first professional win came in Boca Rio in 2020.
