The USA has not yet commented on the statement, but since Donald Trump became president, the country has conducted a tough campaign against migrants in the country.
In March, the Trump administration deported at least 200 Venezuelan citizens from the USA to a high-security prison in El Salvador, accused of being members of the gang Tren de Aragua.
Several countries have previously had plans to establish reception centers in Rwanda to handle the asylum process.
Among others, the Danish social democrats wanted to relocate part of the asylum process to the country in 2019, but the proposal has largely been put on ice since the election in 2022.
The United Kingdom has also wanted to send migrants and asylum seekers to Rwanda.
The two countries signed an agreement that Rwanda would receive thousands of asylum seekers from 2022, but the agreement was withdrawn after the Labour Party won the British parliamentary election in 2024.
The proposals to send migrants and asylum seekers to Rwanda have been criticized by several human rights organizations.
