SFV has recently submitted an application to the government with an updated preliminary study for the renovation, which is estimated to take five to six years after the detailed plan has been approved. This means that the cost estimate has been reduced somewhat since January, when it was stated to amount to 3.5 billion kronor.
The project is described in a press release as "the National Property Board's largest and most complex renovation to date".
"I am glad that the work on the Royal Opera's renovation is moving forward and that the National Property Board signals that it is ready for the next step," says Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand (M).
In January, she described the state's responsibility as "obvious":
In this case, I think that the public obviously has a responsibility to take care of the cultural heritage that the building is, it is 251 years old, she said then to TT.
The government is now reviewing the proposal and is expected to respond "shortly".
