Liverpool seemed to be heading for their second defeat of the season, but despite playing with ten men for nearly 80 minutes, they managed to secure a 2-2 draw at home against Fulham.
Diogo Jota became the savior when he turned past a defender and calmly placed the equalizer in the 86th minute.
Prior to that, much had gone Fulham's way. In the 11th minute, Andreas Pereira scored 1-0 for the visitors with an acrobatic volley. Liverpool's Andrew Robertson could possibly have done a better job marking.
Unimpressive Arsenal
The Scottish veteran's actions a few minutes later were not much better. A poor reception of a deep pass from the opponents was devastating when Robertson was caught off guard and brought down Fulham's Harry Wilson. The referee judged it as a missed clear scoring opportunity and showed a red card.
At the beginning of the second half, Cody Gakpo managed to equalize for Liverpool, nicely set up by Mohamed Salah. Fulham regained the lead through Rodrigo Muniz with a quarter of an hour left to play, but Diogo Jota had the final say.
The other top teams in the Premier League will likely welcome the unexpected result. Perhaps especially Arsenal, who on Saturday dropped points for the second league match in a row by only managing a 0-0 draw at home against Everton.
Isak scores
Six points separate Arsenal, in third place, and league-leading Liverpool, who however have a game in hand. Second-placed Chelsea is five points behind, on the same number of matches as Liverpool.
Further down the table, Swedish national team striker Alexander Isak continues to show fine goal-scoring form. At home against Leicester, he found the net for the third league match in a row, nodding in 3-0 for Newcastle in the 60th minute. Ten minutes later, he set up Jacob Murphy, who sealed the final score 4-0.
