The Swedish star took silver on the short distance earlier in the week. When it was time for the longer Olympic distance, no one could stop her.
Rissveds had the lead in principle all the way and then pulled away at the end, closest pursued by Samara Maxwell from New Zealand.
Before the last lap, Maxwell closed in and reduced the gap to ten seconds. But with good pace in the uphill slopes, Rissveds shook off the pursuing Maxwell and could win with an 18-second margin.
We all say that we want to become World Champions from a very young age. It's something one often just says, something one throws around. But this year, I have really felt that I want to win a World Championship gold, says Rissveds and continues:
I believed in it completely. It feels incredible to achieve it.
Rissveds has an impressive record from before, with the Olympic Games gold in Rio 2016 as the highlight and also a bronze from the Olympic Games in Paris last year. In the European Championship this summer, Rissveds took gold in both the short distance and the Olympic distance.
The gold medalist from the short distance, the Swiss Alessandra Keller, took the bronze.
