Around 500 people are classified as victims in the police investigation into the school massacre in Örebro last year. But only just over 250 have sought compensation from the Swedish Crime Victims' Agency.
"For the sake of the victims, we hope that we receive many more applications," says the authority's head of criminal damages, Magnus Öhrn, in a press release.
The Crime Victims' Authority has paid out almost eight million kronor to around 150 victims and close relatives.
Most students and employees who were at the school during the attack are expected to be able to receive varying degrees of compensation from the state, the Swedish Crime Victims' Agency announced.
When ten people were killed in the mass shooting at Campus Risbergska in Örebro last year, hundreds of people were victims of the attack. They may be entitled to government compensation.
Those who were shot at can receive up to 300,000 kronor, while those who were forced to shelter in the school for a long time can receive between 20,000 and 50,000 kronor.
Relatives of those killed can receive up to 130,000 kronor.
Because the perpetrator also died during the attack, the issue of guilt cannot be tried in court, and victims cannot therefore receive compensation from the perpetrator.
