All individuals with a uterus between 23 and 70 years should be included in the screening program for HPV, and should therefore be offered sampling. But Region Skåne's system for calling to sampling for HPV is based only on female personal numbers, which means that trans persons with a uterus who have male personal numbers fall between the chairs.
The Equality Ombudsman makes the assessment that Region Skåne should have "created routines to compensate for the deficiencies in the system". The trans man was informed by Region Skåne that he himself had to contact the healthcare to be screened – which according to the Equality Ombudsman meant that he was discriminated against. After the test result showed the presence of HPV, the man was again discriminated against by Region Skåne, when he was incorrectly informed that he would automatically be called for follow-up.
The Equality Ombudsman requests that Region Skåne should pay 35,000 kronor in discrimination compensation to the man.
HPV can lead to cell changes in the cervix, which if left untreated can develop into cancer.
Region Skåne has until October 21 to take a position on the Equality Ombudsman's request.
