Through 6–3, 3–6, 7–6 (5–3), Taylor Fritz defeated the second-seeded Alexander Zverev, Germany. Fritz thus becomes the first American to reach the tour final since James Blake lost to Swiss Roger Federer in 2006.
I've felt that I belong here (at this level), that I'm one of the best players. It's not result-based. It's more about how I feel I can play, says the 27-year-old.
The last time an American won the tour final – only eight players get to play the final – was in 1999 when Pete Sampras won.
Earlier this year, Taylor Fritz became the first American in 15 years to reach a Grand Slam final, but then lost to world number one Jannik Sinner, Italy, in the US Open in New York.
In the ATP final in Turin, Fritz will get a chance for revenge. Sinner won his semifinal easily against Norwegian Casper Ruud with 6–1, 6–2.
It won't be an easy match for Fritz. Sinner has won 25 of his last 26 matches.
