Recently, the first grey shark was caught in Sweden in nearly half a century. A few days later, another one was caught – which is seen as a signal that the species may be on its way back.

When Eskilstuna resident Johan Lembke recently caught a grey shark off Tjörn, it was the first one to be registered in the Large Fish Register in 47 years – and only the third ever. But just a few days later, it happened again – a new grey shark was caught in Swedish waters, writes Sportfiskarna in a press release.

Both fish were released back into the sea.

”It's very exciting that this unusual fish species is appearing again in Swedish waters. In just a few days, we have now registered two of the total four grey sharks that are noted in the Large Fish Register since 1971”, says Nicka Hellenerg, large fish registrar at Sportfiskarna.

The grey shark only occurs very rarely in Skagerrak and Kattegatt. The species grows slowly, can grow up to about two meters long and gives birth to live young.
