It's about illegal bangers and chrysanthemum bombs, which are part of powerful fireworks devices.
About half of the explosions we've seen in Sweden in a criminal context have consisted of various types of pyrotechnic products or objects, says Malin Nygren, head of the national bomb data center at the Police, to TV4.
In 2024, there were 129 explosions in the country, and 35 in January this year. In Skåne, 15 cases involving fireworks bombs from the past year are being investigated.
A reason for the increase is believed to be that pyrotechnics are easy to use and easier to get hold of than, for example, construction dynamite. The police suspect that fireworks bombs may increase, according to an internal PM that Kalla Fakta has taken part of.
According to the police, they are working to counter the problem, among other things through enhanced cooperation between authorities and with other EU countries.
