Paris Saint-Germain has, since Qatar Sports Investments, with Nasser al-Khelaifi at the helm, recruited numerous star players to win the Champions League for the first time in the club's history.
Lionel Messi, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Kylian Mbappé, Neymar are just a few of the names that have been brought in.
But it would turn out that a 19-year-old Frenchman was the solution all along.
Désiré Doué had a sensational show in the world's biggest club match when he secured PSG's first CL title – a historic moment for the club. The speedy winger scored two goals and one assist in the crazy 5–0 win, and made history as the youngest ever to score a goal and assist in a Champions League final.
It's simply magnificent. It's crazy, I'm so happy, says Doué about the feat.
Rapid Start
Beforehand, it was a very uncertain final. But already after 20 minutes, much had crystallized.
First, Achraf Hakimi was correctly positioned in front of the goal and angled in the leading goal. A goal that he chose not to celebrate, as he has a past in the Milan club. And just eight minutes later, it was time again, but this time it was Doué who, via Inter defender Federico Dimarco, put in 2–0.
This despite Inter having been one of the world's best defensive teams during the season. The Italian team went through the entire group stage in the CL without conceding a single goal, and until the semifinals, the team had only conceded four goals.
But in the final, there was no doubt which team was the best. PSG was not just one number bigger than Inter coming out a bit more lively in the second half, the French capital club had an answer to everything.
The Biggest Rout Ever
And when Doué added to the evening's goal harvest with his 3–0 goal after just over an hour of play, it was curtains for the Italian league runners-up, who could note their second final defeat in three years.
The final score was eventually written as 5–0, after Chvitja Kvaratschelia and substitute Senny Mayulu got to score their respective goals.
As if the defeat wasn't crushing enough for Inter, it also wrote itself into the history books as the biggest winning margin ever in a Champions League final.
On Sunday, PSG will be hailed by France's president – who has invited the team to the Élysée Palace – who also took the opportunity to congratulate them on X:
"A glorious day for PSG! We are all proud. Paris is Europe's capital tonight", writes Macron.
