The home team's star Ousmane Dembéle, who had scored the only goal in the semifinal before the return match at Parc des Princes, sat on the bench after being injured in London.
From that position, he could see Arsenal create a number of high-quality chances that required PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to show off large parts of his repertoire.
The Parisians would, however, slowly but surely grow into the match and eventually find the goal. In the 27th minute, Fabian Ruiz chested the ball past and completely smashed in a volley to make it 1-0 and a two-goal lead overall.
Rice kept hope alive
A few minutes later, the game could almost have been decided in PSG's favor when Bradley Barcola got a superb opportunity in a counterattack. But in the last minute, Declan Rice could slide in as a saving angel for the London team and deflect the winger's shot attempt.
Arsenal was thus still in the game – although the home team could go into halftime with the final ticket to Munich within reach.
In the beginning of the second act, Donnarumma would once again reflect his fine interventions in the match's beginning when he flapped out his 196 centimeters to steer Bukayo Saka's shot over the crossbar.
A few minutes after the save, the German referee blew the whistle and made the sign for a VAR check – where many did not know what it was about. In the end, he would point to the penalty spot after it was shown that Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly had gotten the ball on his hand in a counterattack for PSG.
Up to the penalty spot, Vitinha went, who could not close the match. The penalty was weakly hit, and David Raya in the London team's goal could parry.
Double Arsenal mistakes
But the hope of a turnaround would prove to be short-lived for the away team.
For after double mistakes from Arsenal players, the ball would eventually end up with Achraf Hakimi, who could score 2-0 from the edge of the penalty area with 15 minutes left of regular time.
3-0 overall in the double match and the noise level increased significantly on the Parc des Princes stands.
Bukayo Saka could then break the Arsenal zero, and was not long after close to making it 2-2 in the match and 3-2 overall. The ball went over the crossbar, and PSG could hold on.
The Parisians are thus clear for the second Champions League final in the club's history, where they will meet Inter on May 31 at the Allianz Arena.
