One of the men is the former leader of the organization, Enrique Tarrio. According to the lawsuit, which was filed with a court in Florida on Friday, there was no reason to arrest the men. Furthermore, it is claimed that the investigators later "found" false evidence and that the men were detained for several years before the trial, often in isolation.
"The plaintiffs themselves did not prevent the procedure at the Capitol, did not destroy government property, did not make violent resistance, did not conspire to disrupt the police or law and order, and did not plan or order anyone else to do so", it says in the lawsuit.
The men were all convicted of crimes related to the riots. Enrique Tarrio, who received 22 years in prison, was previously pardoned this year by Donald Trump, while the other four received shortened sentences.
