The national protest day goes under the name "Good trouble lives on" – good problems live on – and has gathered demonstrators in a large number of cities in the country, including New York, Atlanda, St. Louis, Oakland and Chicago.
The latter city has been appointed as the "flagship city" for the protests, with, among other things, a candlelight vigil.
The protests are directed against the Trump government's policy in general, but also have a focus on the deportations carried out against undocumented migrants.
We are navigating one of the most frightening moments in our nation's history, said Lisa Gilbert, chairman of the civil rights organization Public Citizen on Thursday.
In June, a similar national Trump-critical protest day was carried out under the name "No kings", which the organizers claimed gathered "millions" of people.
