Finland's planned changes to the nuclear weapons law are not about bringing nuclear weapons into the country, President Alexander Stubb tells Yle.
"I want to emphasize that the amendment to the law does not mean that nuclear weapons would be placed in Finland. Finland does not want nuclear weapons on its territory and there are no such plans within NATO. Finland will therefore not become a nuclear-weapon state," he says.
The bill means that nuclear weapons can be brought into Finland or transported through the country if needed for Finland's defense, NATO operations or defense cooperation.
Stubb believes that this would put Finland on the same page as the other Nordic countries when it comes to restrictions on nuclear weapons.
