Russian air strikes have knocked out electricity supplies to one million households in and around Kyiv, according to Ukrainian electricity company DTEK.
Intense Russian attacks overnight, mainly targeting energy facilities, were carried out with missiles and drones. Residents of Kyiv were urged to take shelter after several powerful explosions shook the capital.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accuses Russia of "not wanting to end the war" and not responding to the latest peace proposal.
“Russian representatives engage in lengthy talks, but in reality, Kinzhal (robots) and Shahed (drones) speak their own language,” he writes.
Zelenskyy states that over 500 drones and 40 missiles were used against mainly energy and civilian facilities in Kyiv during the night.
The Ukrainian Air Force issued a nationwide airstrike alert and Mayor Vitalij Klychko wrote on social media that air defenses had been deployed.
"Explosions in the capital. Air defense is on. Stay in the shelters," the mayor wrote early Saturday.
Fighter jets ready
According to Klychko, two people have been killed and another 32 have been injured, 11 of them so seriously that they have been hospitalized. Several properties are on fire and search and rescue operations are underway.
The Air Force also reports several attacks on other parts of the country.
In response to the Russian attacks, Poland's fighter jets were mobilized during the night, the country's air force writes on X. The airports in the border cities of Rzeszów and Lublin were closed, but reopened in the morning, the Polish air traffic control authority writes on X.
