Israel's military used a 230 kilo heavy bomb – a powerful weapon – in the attack on a popular café in Gaza on Monday, according to experts who The Guardian has spoken to.
The newspaper has let the experts analyze images from the impact site. According to these, the use of such a powerful bomb, despite knowledge that unprotected civilians were present at the site, can violate the laws and constitute war crimes.
The crater that formed at the site confirms, according to the experts, that it was an American-made general-purpose bomb of the type MK-82.
Between 24 and 46 Palestinians were killed in the attack and dozens were injured. The Israeli military states that the attack is being investigated, and that measures were taken to reduce the risk of harming civilians.
