Olsson played 25 international matches from 2010–2015 and spent nine seasons with West Bromwich, most of them in the Premier League.
As a former center back, he occasionally questioned former national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson's way of organizing the defensive game in Viaplay broadcasts.
The tactical part is something Potter will review, Olsson believes.
Potter is organizationally skilled and I find him very clear, so I hope we'll see that.
"The media seems to be obsessed with what formation the national team plays in. For me, it's not that important. However, I hope and believe that we will see changes in the principles surrounding defense and balance," says Olsson.
What changes?
Less marking, clearer role distribution, lower first pressing line and better remaining defense.
Potter will release his first national team squad, ahead of the final World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Slovenia, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sweden can no longer take a direct place in the World Cup next summer and will likely have to play a playoff in March.
Jonas Olsson says about Tomasson's selections:
Regarding players in and out of the starting eleven or squad, I don't think anyone was missed or felt they didn't get a chance. However, I do believe that there needs to be better continuity for the players you choose to give a chance to.
As Olsson points out:
It should be remembered that “JDT” used over 40 starting players during its 18 months.
