Think that a 54th place in a golf tournament can taste so good. Pontus Nyholm, 27, is ready for the PGA tour after a dramatic Sunday. It was a strange day, says the Swede.

It may be time for Pontus Nyholm to send a bouquet of flowers to Chandler Blanchet. That the American held on to win the season finale on the Korn Ferry tour, the sub-tour to PGA, proved to be completely decisive.

If second-placed Barend Botha had instead taken home the competition, the South African would have passed Nyholm in the battle for the 20th and final place on next year's PGA tour.

Pontus Nyholm, who himself was about to play away his PGA dream (75 strokes for the day meant a final 54th place in the competition), had to follow the drama from the side. Blanchet held on in the end and won with a two-stroke margin.

It was quite crazy. I didn't get the game I wanted this week and put myself in a pretty tough spot. I went back to the hotel after my round, ate a cheeseburger, drank a few cups of coffee and watched as Chandler played home the win, says Nyholm to PGA tour's website.

So I have a new favorite golfer in Chandler Blanchet.

Pontus Nyholm took his first win on the Korn Ferry tour in the spring, when he won a competition in Tennessee. Now he makes the same journey as Tim Widing did a year ago. Widing was a rookie on the PGA tour this year after, like Nyholm, having secured a tour card through fine performances on Korn Ferry 2024.
