Our VMA will be lifted here, so the blockades will be reduced and hopefully all residents and others will be able to move freely in the area, says the police's press spokesperson Evelina Olsson to TT at 22.15.
She does not know the "exact number" of hand grenades that the National Bomb Protection Unit was forced to handle.
But at least ten were mentioned, says Evelina Olsson.
A preliminary investigation into serious offenses against the law on flammable and explosive goods has been initiated, but no one has been arrested.
The police received the alarm about a "suspected dangerous object" in Västra hamnen just before 18.30 on Friday evening. And fairly soon it was assessed that it concerned several dangerous objects, whereupon a large operation was initiated. A larger area was blocked off, both residents and businesses were evacuated, and the National Bomb Protection Unit was called to the site.
A so-called VMA – important message to the public – was also issued, with a call to residents in the area to stay indoors and keep away from windows, and the blockades were extended.
Just before 20.00, the police bomb technicians were on site to investigate the object, and just after 22.00 the danger was over.
