A police officer in Växjö municipality shot a one-legged woman in the thigh when she refused to release the axe she was carrying. Now he is acquitted of misconduct.

The police were about 13 meters from the woman who was holding an axe and a mock gun in the summer of 2024. When she refused to put down the items, he shot her in the leg, reports Smålandsposten.

The police have since been prosecuted for misconduct and the woman has requested just over 175,000 kronor in damages for violation, pain and discomfort. According to the woman, she has suffered nerve damage from the shot.

The district court has now acquitted the police, who are deemed to have acted in self-defense.

The woman's leg was amputated just under ten years ago after she was also shot by the police at that time.
