Yasin is one of Sweden's most controversial, but also most influential, rappers. He has previously been sentenced to prison for preparation for human trafficking and for aggravated weapons crimes. Friday evening's concert at Brännbollsyran in Umeå would have been his first performance in Sweden in nine years.
According to Aftonbladet, a murder plan had been planned against Yasin in connection with the performance. The police are said to have obtained the information through a seized phone where it emerged that a serious crime was planned.
Two arrested
Two young people are suspected of taking on the plans and both were arrested in a residence. Who gave them the assignment is unknown.
The assessment to cancel the concert has been made by the festival organizers together with the police.
On Instagram, Brännbollsyran writes that "visitors' and staff's anxiety based on media reports has made it impossible to carry out the performance."
"The safety of visitors and staff always comes first. Brännbollsyran will continue as planned otherwise," the organizer writes further.
"This is not my decision and I share your disappointment. I was still looking forward to standing on stage and meeting you despite the circumstances. Thanks to everyone who has shown love and looked forward to the performance, it means a lot," Yasin himself writes on Instagram.
He also states that the journey continues and ends with "see you soon".
The police say they have had an ongoing dialogue with the festival organizer.
"We cannot provide any further information about the threat picture. We have had an ongoing dialogue with the organizer, who has the main responsibility for order and security at the event, and have informed them of our view of the security situation," says Fredrik Jeppsson, deputy local police chief, on the Umeå police website.
Unclear about other concerts
On July 5, Yasin is booked to play at Alive Festival in Borlänge write to Borlänge Tidning that they "are following the development closely" regarding the canceled performance in Umeå.
"We will make a thorough assessment based on security, safety, and our responsibility towards guests, artists, and employees. Beyond that, we have nothing more to add at present," says the festival's CEO Patrik Schultz.
On August 30, the rapper is scheduled to perform at Trädgården Festival in Kristianstad.
