Police cannot warn independent schools when an employee is suspected of child pornography offenses as the principle of public disclosure does not apply to private employers.

"That's wrong. Very wrong," police officer Jonas Göthner told Vi Lärare.

In SVT's "Assignment Review", the program follows him and his colleagues at the unit for sexual abuse of children in Stockholm. In one case, an employee at a municipal school is suspected of child pornography. The police alert the school, which immediately suspends the employee.

In a case where a suspect works in a school group, the police can only ask the man not to return to work and file a report of concern with social services for all students at the school.

The police hope that the government's proposal on the principle of openness for independent schools will become law next year.
