It was a Slovenian victory in the fourth stage of the Tour de France. The superstar Tadej Pogacar made a powerful move with just over 19 kilometers left – and after that, no one could threaten him.
In solitary majesty, he cycled across the finish line first of all. Remco Evenepoel, Belgium, came second and Juan Ayuso, Spain, third. The winning margin was ultimately 35 seconds.
This was more or less the plan and we executed it really well, says Pogacar according to AP.
The 139.6-kilometer-long stage took place between the Italian Pinerolo and the French Valloire. It was the first real mountain stage of this year's edition.
Pogacar won the Tour de France in 2020 and 2021 and is one of the favorites in this year's tour. Tuesday's victory means that Pogacar now takes over the yellow leader's jersey from Richard Carapaz, Ecuador.
