When Vishwash Kumar Ramesh for his own sake got out among the wreckage after the crash in Ahmedabad, it was as the only alleged passenger alive.
The British traveler, who claims to have sat in seat 11A in the accident plane, has been interviewed by Indian media while the world tries to understand how he could survive the catastrophic crash.
I also thought I would die, but then I opened my eyes and realized I was alive, says Ramesh.
242 people on board
His parents confirm to British media that Ramesh and his brother were on the plane, which had a total of 242 people on board.
India's Home Minister Amit Shah said that the heat from the plane was so high that the possibility of saving lives was non-existent.
Ramesh tells that he could see dead people in front of him. He then describes how he got out through a broken door and video clips show him stumbling forward from the wreckage towards an ambulance.
Visited by Modi
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ramesh at the hospital on Friday.
"Met the injured in the aftermath of the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad, including the only survivor, and assured them that we stand with them and their families in this difficult time", he writes, among other things, on X.
Ramesh is emotional when he tells about the course of events.
Within a minute after takeoff, it suddenly felt like something was stuck. I realized that something had happened, he says.
After that, it seemed like the plane increased in speed, in the direction of what later turned out to be a hostel for a hospital. I saw everything happen.
