There was a sold-out crowd at the Avicii Arena (formerly Globen) and 13,950 tickets sold when Djurgården beat Brynäs, who lost the Swedish Championship final to Luleå this spring.
The 17-year-old forward Viggo Björck scored 1-0 after 4.05 minutes – nicely played by Canadian Charles Hudon.
“Unparalleled game perception”
"He's so good. He has an incredible understanding of the game for being so young. It's great to play with him," says the 31-year-old Hudon about Björck to TV4 Play.
Against Brynäs, the comebacking Jacob Josefson, 34, was a center in the second chain with Björck and Hudon. Most recently against HV71 (1–6 loss), the Canadian played with Victor Eklund, 19, and Anton Frondell, 18. Two other juniors who have been successful for the newcomer this season.
"They're amazing. They're going to do great things in the NHL or somewhere else," Hudon said.
Hudon himself made it 2–0 before the break. In the second act, Joseph Snively made it 3–0. On all three goals, Brynäss players were either passive or gave the puck away.
"This period is absolutely fucking miserable. There's one person with the puck and four people running and hiding," Brynäs Johannes Kinnvall told TV4 after the second period.
Lost the series lead
In the final period, Gustav Lindström extended the lead to 4–0 before Bobby Trivigno and Anton Rödin each scored a consolation goal for the away team. Djurgården is fourth in the SHL with 32 points. Brynäs is tenth with 20 points.
The bottom team HV71 could not build on their 6–1 victory last time out against Djurgården, but fell 0–5 away against Timrå.
Rögle lost the league lead after a 0–2 away loss to Leksand. Instead, it is Frölunda who tops the SHL table ahead of the international break. The Gothenburg team won the heavyweight match against Färjestad 4–1 and is on 42 points – two ahead of Rögle.
