It is clear that we are affected by tensions within the alliance, but when it comes to Article 5 (NATO's mutual protection pledge) and the ability for joint deterrence and defence, it is firm and the American side has also said so, says Pål Jonson (M).
The Minister of Defense has met with ministerial colleagues from Denmark and other Nordic countries following the US's repeated demands to take over Greenland, which is an autonomous Danish territory.
The US is an ally and we have very close bilateral and military cooperation. But when we disagree with the US, we say so. It is also well known when it comes to trade sanctions and tariffs: there we also mark when we disagree with the US. It is crystal clear.
Pål Jonson says he appreciates how Mark Rutte has handled the situation so far.
"The Washington Agreement states that disputes between member states must be resolved by peaceful means, and we have stated that. Our solidarity with Denmark and Greenland is inalienable," he says.
Corrected: In a previous version, there was incorrect information about who met in Brussels.
