The nomination takes place in light of "his decisive diplomatic intervention and important leadership during the recent crisis between India and Pakistan", writes the Pakistani government on X.
The situation between the two nuclear-armed nations escalated earlier this year, after at least 26 people were killed in the Indian part of Kashmir. Armed men opened fire on a group of tourists. India responded by attacking several locations in Pakistan-controlled areas of Kashmir. The two countries continued to bombard each other for several days until an agreement on a ceasefire was finally reached in May - according to Pakistan with the help of the American president.
No mediation
But Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi means that the claim that the US helped to mediate is not true.
Prime Minister Modi has clearly conveyed to President Trump that at no point during the entire sequence of events was there any discussion, at any level, about an India-US trade agreement, or any proposal for US mediation between India and Pakistan, said the Indian top diplomat Vikram Misri earlier in June.
Donald Trump claimed after four days of hostilities in May that the two Asian nuclear powers had agreed to end the escalating warfare after "a long night of talks with US mediation".
"Whatever I do"
But himself, Donald Trump does not believe that he will be awarded the prestigious prize. In a post on his platform Truth Social, he writes, among other things, that he "will not receive the Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between India and Pakistan".
"No, I will not receive the Nobel Peace Prize whatever I do", writes the president.
