The crime drama, about a 13-year-old boy who is accused of having murdered a girl of the same age, has been a big favorite among both viewers and critics.
I was nothing three years ago, now I'm here. Dare to step out of your comfort zone a little, who cares if you embarrass yourself, said Owen Cooper in his acceptance speech.
Eight statuettes
However, it was not the only win for "Adolescence", which won every category it was nominated in. In total, it became eight statuettes, including for best miniseries and best direction and male lead in a miniseries.
The most awarded, however, was the comedy series "The Studio", with Seth Rogen at the helm, with 13 statuettes.
A disappointment for "Severance" which before the gala had received the most nominations, 27, but in the end only won in two categories. The series is still written into history, however, Tramell Tillman won, as the first black man ever, in the category of best male supporting role in a drama series.
I took a chance, I've learned that there are no guarantees in life, he said to reporters after the win, according to BBC.
Colbert was awarded
It was a notable win also for the host Stephen Colbert in the category of best talk show. Recently, the TV network Paramount decided to discontinue his talk show next year.
The decision came after Colbert criticized the network's settlement with President Donald Trump, who sued the media giant's subsidiary CBS News for an interview with presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Already earlier in the evening, Colbert was met with standing ovations from the audience when he stepped out onto the stage to present an award.
Now that I have your attention, is anyone hiring? he joked from the stage.
Corrected: In an earlier version, the wrong winning category for Owen Cooper was stated.
