"Fortunately, no staff were injured in the incident, but this has a direct impact on ICRC's ability to operate," announces the International Red Cross Committee (ICRC) in a statement.
Israel's military admits to having fired at the building and states in a statement that they mistakenly "identified suspects inside and felt threatened". The military did not understand at the time that the building belonged to the Red Cross. The incident will be further investigated.
Women and Children
Among the dead in the latest Israeli attacks are both women and children. The hospitals have also received more than 140 people injured, according to the daily report from the Hamas-controlled authorities.
Four people, including a child, are reported to have been killed in a school building where displaced civilians sought shelter. During the night, a hospital in the city of Gaza reported that they had received the remains of a family: two children, their parents, a grandparent, and an uncle.
Journalist Hussam Shabat, who works for the Qatari TV company Al Jazeera, was also killed in Monday's attacks, according to the company.
Thus, at least 730 people are reported to have been killed in Gaza since Israel broke the ceasefire with new bombings nearly a week ago.
Six Staff Members Missing
The Palestinian civil defense, whose work largely consists of rescuing people from the rubble after the many attacks, is sounding the alarm that six of its staff members have gone missing after responding to a call. The six drove to Rafah in southern Gaza on Sunday morning due to reports that Israeli forces had entered an area in the city's western parts. Since then, they have been unreachable.
Israel insists that everything is being done to protect civilians in Gaza as far as international law requires. Defense Minister Israel Katz reiterated this on Monday and accused the Islamist movement Hamas of continuing to mingle with civilians in the war-torn area.
At least 50,000 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip in the war, according to the authorities in Gaza.
