Rain has poured down almost without interruption over large parts of Punjab in eastern Pakistan, which has created floods in the populous province.
"63 people have died and 290 injured due to monsoon rain throughout the province", wrote the disaster agency in Punjab in a statement.
In the city of Rawalpindi, the authorities have declared a public holiday on Thursday to keep people at home. Residents near the Nullah Lai river that flows through the city have been urged to evacuate. The rain is expected to continue also on Friday.
"Residents in vulnerable areas should prepare emergency packages with food, water and essential medicines for three to five days in the event of an emergency," urges the agency.
Since the end of June when the monsoon rains began, around 180 people have died, reports the country's disaster agency. Of these, over 70 were children.
