The floor of the house where the dogs were kept was covered in a layer of feces several centimeters thick, according to the county administrative board's animal welfare unit.
The dogs, who were dirty and injured to varying degrees, lived without heat, had to compete for food, and the female dogs were forced to give birth to their puppies in a stressful environment. There were also reportedly the remains of a dead dog.
Five of the dogs taken into care had been living with the woman. Of the more than 41 dogs taken into care, two had to be euthanized.
The woman denies the crime.
