Christmas shopping, an important period for many retailers, is expected to amount to 24 billion kronor this year, according to a prognosis from Svensk Handel. This is a slightly higher sum than the prognosis from last year.
According to the survey conducted by the trade organization, fewer people will reduce their Christmas gift purchases this year compared to last year.
"The majority of consumers are expected to shop about as much as last year. 12 percent have plans to increase their Christmas gift purchases, while 26 percent have stated that they will cut back on them," they write in their prognosis.
Nearly one in five reports that they plan to buy Christmas gifts through the Chinese low-price websites Temu and Shein. This is primarily consumers in the age groups 18-24 years and 45-54 years.
The survey also shows that the vast majority of Christmas gifts are purchased online.
"Since the pandemic year 2020, the internet has taken over and tops as the purchase location for Christmas gifts. The increase has primarily occurred at the expense of purchases in the hometown."
