The crime classification is attempted murder and the person is being held on reasonable suspicion, the lower level of suspicion.
I cannot go into any details about the investigation, but circumstances have emerged that mean there is reasonable suspicion against a person and that is why I arrested that person on Friday, says prosecutor Emma Häggström.
She does not want to go into any details about the detained person nor comment on the person's connection to the Academic Hospital.
It was at the end of October that the first person fell ill from suspected poisoning at the Academic Hospital. A week later, two more fell ill. All three were in intensive care. Later, the prosecutor announced that a fourth person was also suspected of having been poisoned and that the cases were linked.
The analysis of what poisoned the people is not yet complete, but over the weekend we will continue to work on a number of different investigative measures. After that, we will decide whether to proceed with a detention request on Monday, says Emma Häggström.
All four people who fell ill worked in the same ward at the children's hospital. The staff on the ward were informed of the arrest on Friday.
"The Academic Children's Hospital continues with security measures, including through information to staff, continued presence of guards and closed doors to the ward," the hospital writes in a press release.
