Solberg was second, just 2.2 seconds behind nine-time World Rally champion Ogier, when the chase for victory ended.
Solberg, who had made further gains on the penultimate stage, crashed his Toyota into a guardrail and had to retire from the race when the left front wheel came off. Both he and co-driver Elliott Edmondson escaped unharmed.
Ogier, who took his 68th World Rally victory, regretted that the duel ended prematurely.
"You don't want that, but rallying is a tough sport. I'm sorry for Oliver, but I'm sure we'll have more battles," he said in TV4's broadcast.
Elfyn Evans of Great Britain leads the World Championship standings with 101 points. Solberg is fourth on 68 points.
