The Swede equalized and made it 1–1 for the home team Toronto at the beginning of the second period, after the visitors had led the entire first.

I think we got a bit of momentum. We worked hard and it started to pay off, we got more high-quality scoring chances and tried to build on that, says William Nylander after the match.

In the third period, Nylander also made an assist, but after a goal-rich final period, it was 3–3 and the match went to overtime. However, it didn't take long before William Nylander stepped forward again.

"High hockey-IQ"

Just over a minute into overtime, the 28-year-old caught a pass from teammate Mitch Marner and sent a well-directed shot right past New Jersey goalkeeper Jacob Markström. It was Nylander's 26th goal of the season and means he climbs to a shared third place in the scoring league.

Toronto's coach Craig Berube praised the Swede highly after the match.

He reads the game very well. He has a really high hockey-IQ where he can be open and take advantage of people, he says about William Nylander.

It was a good play by Mitch too, reading the change in the game and getting the puck up to "Willy". "Willy" played a hell of a game.

Forsberg celebrated

In tonight's other matches, the Swedes also shone. Jonatan Berggren scored the opening goal in Detroit's 5–2 win over Florida, assisted by Erik Gustafsson. Lucas Raymond made two assists in the same match.

Filip Forsberg scored a goal and Gustav Nyquist scored a penalty when Nashville won against Chicago with 3–2 after penalties.

Forsberg's goal was extra worth celebrating since it was also his 300th NHL goal.

I had plenty of time and tried to load up as much as possible and got a good hit, says the 30-year-old to Aftonbladet.

It feels, of course, nice that it was number 300, especially since it was such an important goal.

Chicago's goalkeeper Arvid Söderblom made a great game and saved all 39 shots.

Viktor Arvidsson contributed to Edmonton's 4–3 win over Colorado with the team's first goal.

Leo Carlsson scored a goal for his Anaheim, which however lost 3–4 after penalties to Tampa Bay.

Adrian Kempe notched a goal and an assist in Los Angeles' big win (5–1) away against Vancouver.
