Six years after the fire in Notre Dame, the bell towers are now open to the public again, writes French media.

The restored towers were inaugurated by President Emmanuel Macron on Friday. From Saturday, visitors can once again make their way several hundred steps up to see Paris from above.

The President was given a guided tour on the outside of the towers, where the grotesque figures that have always adorned the cathedral reign. The guided tour takes 45 minutes, starts in the southern tower and passes the large bells before heading down again via the northern tower.

The round tour could be done already before the fire, but we have improved it considerably, says Philippe Jost, civil servant who has been the highest responsible for the reconstruction.

Notre Dame was ravaged by fire in April 2019, mainly it was the roof and the cathedral's characteristic spire that collapsed. A year later, they began to renovate the over 800-year-old cathedral.

On December 16 last year, Notre Dame was reopened in a grand ceremony.
