It was on Thursday that the Myanmar Football Association presented Jørn Andersen as its new national team coach.
“I am delighted to be in Myanmar,” he said in a statement.
With the appointment, the 63-year-old adds to an already somewhat unusual CV; he has previously led both Hong Kong and North Korea.
It's not an uncomplicated country Andersen has chosen this time either. Since the military took power in 2021, a civil war has been raging in which over 100,000 people have died, according to figures from conflict monitor Acled.
Andersen himself had a successful playing career, with 27 international caps for Norway in the 1980s and several seasons in the German Bundesliga.
