His opinion on that issue has not changed, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in response to questions about the matter in connection with the meeting.
However, she emphasized that Trump was looking forward to Thursday's meeting with Nobel laureate Machado.
Machado herself said the meeting went well. Later, at a press conference after a subsequent visit to Congress, she also said that she had offered Trump her Peace Prize medal, Reuters reports.
However, she did not answer the question of whether he had received it.
Machado has found herself sidelined by Trump after the US attacked Venezuela and captured President Nicolás Maduro.
Washington has chosen to support the remnants of Maduro's regime, now led by interim president Delcy Rodríguez. She has said of Machado that she has neither "sufficient support nor respect within the country" to take over leadership.
Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize last year for her fight for freedom and democracy in Venezuela. According to The Washington Post, Trump, who believes he should have received the prize himself, was reportedly upset that she accepted it in December.
Machado has since offered to share the prize with Trump, something the Norwegian Nobel Committee has said is not possible under the rules.
