Hanna Öberg came eighth in the pursuit at the Olympics. Afterwards, she gave an emotional speech in defense of her partner, Martin Ponsiluoma, who won gold earlier in the day. He has been questioned so much, but has shown incredible patience. "I would have lost it," she says as tears well up in her eyes.

Hanna Öberg was the best Swede in the pursuit and she moved up ten places to eighth. This came after a real energy boost from her partner's Olympic gold a few hours earlier.

We all got that on the team and all of us girls are doing better today than we did before. I felt like I just had to go out and run, I had nothing to lose. The family had already won gold, as it were.

She says she cried many tears of joy both before and after her own race.

And there are probably more to pick out. If there's anyone I really want to see up there, it's Martin. And today he shows that he really is the best when it comes to that, says Hanna Öberg.

"Not nice to hear"

She says that Ponsiluoma has been questioned about the shooting and there has been talk that he should go cross-country skiing instead.

"It hasn't been fun to hear, but he's been impressive in his handling of it. If it were me, I would have probably lost it a long time ago - to be questioned like that. But he's been very patient and today he really got to show what he can do," she says tearfully.

"I'm so happy for him, I'm treating him to it and I want him to enjoy it."

Did better on the track

Hanna Öberg moved up ten places, Linn Gestblom moved up twelve, Anna Magnusson moved up 18 and Elvira Öberg moved up four places despite five crashes. Elvira Öberg had the best time and Magnusson the third-best. The reason for the move up in the pursuit start was probably the skis.

"We have all felt that it was better and that we were able to compete for it," says Hanna Öberg.

Italy's Lisa Vittozzi won, 28.8 seconds ahead of Norway's Maren Kirkeeide and 34.3 seconds ahead of Finland's Suvi Minkkinen.
