Around 20 of these people were killed in Beit Lahia, a besieged city in the northern end of the strip. It was a building filled with internally displaced persons that was attacked, according to unverified information from the news agency Wafa, which is subordinate to the Palestinian authorities on the West Bank.
Other fatalities are reported in the central parts of the area, as well as in the vicinity of Khan Yunis further south.
Israel has been besieging an area in northern Gaza since the beginning of October, when intense bombing was followed by a ground operation. At least 1,800 people have been killed within the framework of this, according to Palestinian authorities.
The Palestinian civil defense in Gaza reports that its employees have been relocated south by Israel due to the offensive and notes that affected people thus have limited opportunities to receive help. Independent media have been stopped by Israel and Egypt from entering Gaza and reporting on what is happening during the war.
In the latest year's war, more than 43,300 people have died, of which at least half were women and children, according to the Palestinian healthcare system, which like all authorities in Gaza is subordinate to the Islamist movement Hamas. Palestinian sources generally do not distinguish between civilian and military fatalities.
