On Instagram, the 31-year-old admits that he took cocaine during a tournament in Mallorca.

"I made a big mistake and I have to take responsibility. I don't want to make any excuses, but the injuries I have suffered in recent years have taken a toll on me, physically and mentally. I want to apologize to my family, my fans and my sponsors," the Australian writes.

Nick Kyrgios further writes that he is taking a break from social media and public life for 28 days to find himself.

"I understand the example this sets and I am deeply disappointed in myself," Nick Kyrgios wrote.

Tennis' anti-corruption and anti-doping body ITIA writes that Kyrgios has been suspended since August 4, 2026. It is not clear how long the suspension is valid.

"Cocaine is a central stimulant and a substance of abuse that is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's (Wada) prohibited list. If cocaine is taken out of competition, milder sanctions apply for substances of abuse," writes ITIA.

Kyrgios' career has been marred by scandal and controversy. At his peak, he was ranked No. 13 in the world and reached the Wimbledon final in 2022.
