Ruth Chepngetich, Kenya, crushed the world record in the women's marathon by almost two minutes, when she won the Chicago Marathon on Sunday in 2.09,56.
I feel so good, I'm proud of myself. This is my dream that has come true, says the 30-year-old.
The previous world record was held by Tigst Assefa, Ethiopia, who won the Berlin Marathon in 2.11,53 last year.
I've fought a lot and thought about the world record, and now I've fulfilled it, says Chepngetich.
Chepngetich also became the first three-time female winner of the Chicago race with her victory. She dedicated the win to Kelvin Kiptum, who set the men's world record at last year's race – just months before he died in a car accident at the age of 24.
